Thinking Allowed with Jeffrey Mishlove

Body, Nature and the Hypermodern World (Charlene Spretnak) – Part 1

2000Ep524 mins
Guest: Charlene Spretnak

What are the health drawbacks to our focus on economics, technology, progress, and the autonomous individual? Charlene Spretnak and host Jeffrey Mishlove discuss the "crisis of modernity."

Spretnak explains that in the modern world, humans are not considered human, but instead homo-economicus. This view impacts not only our emotional fulfillment, but our capacity for improving health.

For the last 400 years, we have believed in a mechanistic model of the body, where we view our bodies as machines rather than viewing them holistically. In her book, The Resurgence of the Real, Spretnak takes an optimistic view and explores the recent shift away from modernity toward the real.

Even if we have a long way to go, Spretnak and Mishlove agree that our understanding has improved.
