Ocean Wanderer pulls up anchor and leaves the Netherlands. She re-traces her steps back down the European coast en route to the Canary Islands. From here it’s another twenty days to cross the Atlantic Ocean. This leg is that much more challenging, as a day or two out in the middle of the big rollers, they discover that Ocean Wanderer’s diesel engine has been swamped with seawater and can’t be repaired. They endure hits from squall after squall, one of which, in the middle of the night, snaps their spinnaker pole. And added to this, Tony is constantly plagued with the haunting premonition of his family's doom on this final leg.
