S10:Ep523 mins2006

In Brazil over 45 million hectares of rainforest, an area the size of California, have now been demarcated and given legal status as protected areas for local indigenous communities. And an innovative new system of national parks and reserves implemented in 2002 has ensured over 50 million hectares of Amazon rainforest are now under federal protection. In this episode of Earth Report, we focus on some of the people who ensure that this system of protection and delineation works, and whose dedication and commitment could help ensure the long-term survival of this Amazon rainforest and the traditional communities who live in it.
