Global Warming in China

Sustainable Development
S1:Ep627 mins2009

In 2009, China overtook the United States as the planet’s biggest polluter as they produced 11% of all greenhouse gases. Today, more than 90% of energy consumed in housing comes from coal and that number is increasing. A French organization is helping to developing new sources of energy, such as bio-gas for cooking and heating homes in rural areas.

In addition, China is becoming aware of the necessity of investing money to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The progress in living standards, hoped for by the Chinese population, is legitimate, but they must avoid creating excessive imbalances too quickly. To that end, the French are advising that work should be done to improve the energy efficiency in old buildings instead of building new ones.
