At one time in the Muskoday community almost every family had a garden. There were gardens all around. They farmed organically and everything grew well. Recently, commercial and chemical based farming moved in to the area and the old ways were starting to become lost.
Today, the First Nations people of Muskoday are forming organic co-ops where they are resurrecting the gardening techniques their elders used. There are no chemicals and no poisons. In these gardens there is a place for everyone as they take in people who may have never held a job in their life. It is a win-win situation for the community as they are gaining skills in organic gardening and there are improving their community’s health and economy.
