Decent public transport is taken for granted in many countries, but for others, access to vital transport is a major problem. This Hands On program looks at developments that help people get around, linking them to essential services: a telecommunications project in Kenya and Tanzania connects the flying doctor service with vital supporting clinical information; new cheap construction methods are improving road quality in Vietnam and Cambodia; a motorbike medical service in Gambia is delivering healthcare in areas with little transport infrastructure; mobile phones are allowing lifeguards to save precious time when patrolling Portugal's 500km of beaches; and wheelchairs are being redesigned to take account of poor roads and rough ground in Tanzania.
