We go to India to meet a very special lady, Hema Konsotia. She’s a Dalit. That’s the lowest Hindu caste, but she’s working very hard to help her fellow Dalits get out of their predicament. She’s a member of the union of sewage workers, and there’s no place worse in India to work than in the sewers.
In Hinduism, the feeling is that if you’re a Dalit, that’s the way it is supposed to be. But Hema resists that notion, and she’s trying to help herself and her fellow people.
