A penitentiary may be the last place one expects to find a spiritual garden, yet the Regional Treatment Centre at Kingston Penitentiary provides just that. In the Canadian Federal Prison System, aboriginal inmates are given the opportunity to stay connected to their cultural beliefs. Within the Centre, the inmates created a garden and sacred space to practice their traditional ceremonies. The gardening program engages the inmates as caretakers of the land and helps them to embrace the spiritual practice of nurturing mother earth. Come and explore the garden and learn of the components that make this a special healing and spiritual garden.
