Philippines: The Commitment of a Princess

200453 mins

Princess Caroline begins her visit to Manila at the Reception Action Center (RAC) and a children’s prison, and then visits shantytowns and the Virlanie Foundation, which is able to provide clean living quarters, classrooms and medical assistance for some street children.

The toxic contamination from former US naval bases has contaminated the water in many areas. The Bush administration rejected Caroline’s letter regarding the contamination, and the American government refuses to acknowledge any responsibility for cleanup around the closed bases.

HRH is able to influence the Philippine government to address children in prison and for the first time to agree to take charge of the victims of toxic waste. Without the Princess' fight, authorities would have done nothing. Caroline is in touch with their local Association Mondiale des Amis de L’Enfance (AMADE) office to monitor the situation.
