Challenged by an awkward piece of land, architect Don Gurney and his wife, Saffron, built a funky family home that blends seamlessly with the surrounding forest. Massive timbers from an old warehouse support and grace this small home – no trees were sacrificed to build this home!

No stranger to television audiences, architect Jennifer Corson’s show, The Resourceful Renovator, put viewers in touch with green building options. The homes she designs reflect her credo: Waste not, want not.

Building is Sandy MacDonald’s business, but his own house presented some specific challenges. His partner, Jenny, needed a private and separate space in which to operate her acupuncture clinic. And, since both follow a green lifestyle, they wanted their home to have as little environmental impact as possible. The result: a modern home with Asian influences.

If you’re a homeowner, you’re likely to require the services of a contractor at some point. But how do you go about finding one who’s reliable and competent?
