Green Matters

An American couple “retired” to Costa Rica only to find themselves leading the effort to save the once-ubiquitous Macaws, now endangered from lack of habitat. An eco-friendly house lands in England although it was originally designed for the New Mexican desert. Patagonia’s alerce trees, which can live for more than 3,500 years and grow over 150 feet high, have something to tell us. Thousands of lions are raised in captivity for the sole purpose of being game in canned hunts. Siberia’s Kolyma River, once a symbol of the Gulag labor camps where so many died, now plays an important role for its local people. A seed vault in Norway is built to withstand almost any disaster – global warming, earthquakes and even a nuclear explosion.
