Yogic Paths
S1:Ep634 minsMay 2017

Join us on the Yogic Path as we explore one of the most influential and remarkable spiritual traditions, Tantra. Tantra Yoga embodies the soul and spirit of yoga, yet very few understand the diverse and complex tradition. At its core, Tantra is understanding the complementary energies of masculine and feminine, Shiva and Shakti. Tantra teaches that the individual and the universe are one; everything that exists in the universe exists in the body.

The word Tantra means energy (‘tan’) expansion (‘tra’). The practices of Tantra are designed to expand consciousness through oral and written traditions. Most of the well-known sciences of the energy body (such as the chakras, nadis, and the idea of kundalini) come out of the Tantra tradition, which is viewed as a way to adjust the mind-body apparatus in order to stay awakened.

There are many different paths of Tantric yoga, but the two main approaches are viewed as either ‘left hand’ or ‘right hand’. In this episode, you will see beautiful and foreign imagery of both, helping you to gain a better understanding of what Tantra really is, making a distinction between traditional Tantric practices and the sexual practices associated with the Neo-Tantra interpretation in today’s modern world. As you dive into this rich episode, you will learn about the goddess Kali, the use of mantras, yantras, and mudras, the importance and practice of pujas, and the ancient traditions and ceremonies of the yoginis.
