The Gurus continue their exploration of Thailand. In this episode, they take you to Isan, the eastern region of Thailand. It is still relatively unknown, but absolutely fascinating. First, they stop for a traditional Thai massage. It is an ancient healing art, with Indian origins; involving stretching, reflexology, acupressure and yoga. Next, they head north to the city of Chiang Mai, over 10 hours’ drive away.
Along the way they view beautiful spirit houses that line the roads and stop to meet some of the people of the tribes to view their dress, their handicrafts and customs. Arriving in Chiang Mai they explore the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens. There is much to do here, including visiting Wat Gitar Doi Suthep, a famous Buddhist temple and stopping at Elephant Nature Park to help sick elephants. The show finishes as they build their own raft of bamboo and set off down the river.
