We join painter Takao Tanabe along the shore of Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. We view some of his previous works while he explains his artistic development. A dramatic shift occurred when he moved from abstracts to painting landscapes and he reveals some of the challenges he uncovered. We listen to his views of painting landscapes as he sketches a landscape of varying depths and levels of blues.
With sketches and photographs in hand, Takao returns to his studio to paint. He only paints two to three large paintings a year. As he works, he discusses his process and the materials he uses to get a specific look.
