Capoeira Yoga Fusion Class

Available worldwide

This energetic class with Rick Coe combines yoga with martial art Capoeira. Capoeira was originally practiced by the African slaves brought to Brazil by the Portuguese during nearly 500 years of slavery. The Africans brought with them their own martial arts, but were not allowed to practice them. The movements were set to music and disguised to look like a dance or acrobatic game.

Lovely fluid approach, love the history, freeing oneself through music and dance! Must do this one more often to assimilate the movements into my cells <3 Namaste

Loved this practice. The benefits of yoga plus a bit of a workout too.

Yes, more, please, this is invigorating and offers challenge, yet a kind flow. I would love to see more Capoeira set to more of the native music to really allow release to the practice!!

Nice workout, although the changes are a little bit difficult to follow for the first time, at least for someone totally new to capoeira, like me. But I really enjoyed this video, I hope you will make more of this kind of fusion workouts! Thank you!

First time with Capoeira, very interesting, and challenging at the same time - great looking at Rick and the beautiful scenery, a definite one to put on the list I think. A great length too when you want to try something out

inspiring background and music. I like the blend of capoira with yoga. Keep these coming.

This is my current favourite. I have done it several times. Its great as a warmup to horseback riding or a at the end of a day at the office. The length is just right. I would like to see my capoeira/yoga with Rick.

Lovely! Wish it was longer, though. I see that a longer class is coming up, can't wait!

First time trying Capoiera moves, so I found it a little challenging to follow, but it was a refreshing change from my "usual" yoga practice and I look forward to more like this.

Hi christopherwdaley
We have an Intro to Capoiera video with Rick Coe coming up. It will break down the moves and take you through them step by step. We have a longer, more intense yoga-capoiera fusion class coming up as well.

This looks like a good workout but the instructor goes way too fast for someone with only a minimal amount of kopeira. I don't mind not being able to do the moves but it is frustrating to not even be able to see what moves he is making.

Hi klarakuc,

Thank you for your comments about martial arts and violence. For those who do not practice martial arts, one can perceive martial arts as promoting violence. However, in most cases, martial arts is quite the opposite in practice - martial arts facilitates the practice of discipline and controlling one\'s energies. The element and engagement of these exercises stems from a defensive nature (not offense or attacking). True martial arts masters have a clear sense of mind body control generating a sense of peace over the negative energies. A true master shows an almost peaceful quality in the practice and in self defense. If you think from yoga terms, we too as yogis are in a mode of self defense against the ego and the external energies. We use exercises and tools to master and control thoughts/actions.

one thing i dont understand about these fusions: yoga is in its essense about, if i get in this non-harming mood both on and off the mat, how can i possibly do ANY martial arts? thanx for any feedback, its been bothering me for a while..

mdgunter, posted on October 21, 2009

I would like the option of a longer capoeira fusion class. Thank you for sharing.

I highly approve of this original fusion! As many others agree, I would love to see more of this- but an introduction to the basic movements would definitely be beneficial! Namaste.

I loved this combination of ancient dance moves and classical yoga. Would be helpful if we could have a beginners class on Capoeira to make the most of the fluidity.
