Common Ground: Integrative Medicine: Engaged Healthcare (2001)
Integrative Medicine focuses on healing illnesses by looking at the whole body rather than focusing solely on the illness. It uses a combination of energy healing, imagery exercises, acupuncture, meditation and breathing techniques in the practice as an alternative to western medicine.
The focus of the practice is to try to see the whole process through the patient’s eyes and to get really in tune with what the patient is experiencing both emotionally and physically. Today, there are so many illnesses for which Western medicine has no cure. Practitioners of Western medicine are beginning to recognize its deficiencies and many of them are beginning to enhance the scope of their practices with alternative therapies.
Alternative medicine has proven to be a successful alternative to surgery and prescription drugs, particularly with regard to women’s health. Integrative medicine is without a doubt the future of medicine.
