Barb Schmidt

Barb Schmidt is such a captivating speaker that her radiant passion and charisma have garnered her the devotion of fans who travel across the globe to be part of her inspiring movement for global peace through inner peace. On May 13, 2014, Barb will launch her highly-anticipated book, The Practice, (HCI Books) the product of over thirty years of commitment to personal development and research. The Practice provides simple tools for managing stress, finding inner peace, and uncovering happiness. After many years of success in business and philanthropy, Barb partnered with the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Peace Studies Program to promote dialogue in the greater community on the topic of inner peace in 2001. Five years later, Barb launched Peaceful Mind Peaceful World, a community outreach program designed to promote the principles she had taught and studied for years in her work with FAU. Peaceful Mind Peaceful World incorporates workshops and weekly teachings with Barb and many of her esteemed mentors, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Jane Goodall, medical intuitive Caroline Myss, authors Dan Millman and James Finley, and Dr. Andrew Weil, and others. Throughout her life, Barb has espoused the principles of leading a productive, happy, and meaningful existence. She founded the Spirit of Giving Network, and co-founded and served as President of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities of South Florida, raising millions of dollars in proceeds. As a longtime student of religion, sacred texts, psychology, and meditation, Barb seeks to promote the cause of achieving global peace through individual, inner peace. Barb has studied with Thich Nhat Hanh, Deepak Chopra, Scott Peck, Marianne Williamson, Buddhist nun Tenzin Palmo, and Thomas Merton scholar James Finley, among many other notable teachers. By 2011, Barb founded Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life, a non-profit organization through which she teaches The Practice, a three-part guide to practical spirituality in the modern world and her tool for spreading her belief that “outer peace begins with inner peace.” Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life has rapidly expanded to include an online community via Facebook (with posts reaching over 10 million people), through their daily inspirational emails and weekly blogs. In 2014, Barb’s extensive achievements in fostering positive change earned her an invitation to the White House State Dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. Barb is now excited to bring The Practice to a greater audience with its official book launch. 100% of net proceeds from the book's sales will go towards furthering the mission of Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life.
