The world now recognizes the name of author John Steinbeck. What we haven't heard is the story behind his stories and the effects of his fame upon his family. Now, Nancy Steinbeck, widow of his son, shares with us a personal tale of love, devotion, and the devastation of alcoholism on a family.

John Jr. and Nancy initially met at a Buddhist gathering given by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the crazy-wisdom teacher who founded Naropa University, renowned center for contemplative studies in Boulder, Colorado. After following him as a guru, they traveled to meet other lamas in the Buddhist lineage and coalesced their incredible worldly and spiritual experiences in a book called Magical Thinking: Following the Gurus of the World.
