The Garden of Infinite Compassion

What is a contemplative garden? The folks at Sawtooth Botanical Garden in Ketchum, Sun Valley, Idaho, had to figure out an answer to that question – and get the garden built – in barely a month’s time. The reason? His Holiness the Dalai Lama would be coming to Ketchum in a few weeks, and he was bringing with him a beautiful prayer wheel – but they had nowhere to put it!

They turned to acclaimed landscape architect Martin Mosko, who helped create a contemplative garden for the prayer wheel, a space of serenity and repose for the spirit. Mosko explains the elements of a contemplative garden as we watch the mad dash to prepare a garden with a river in just five weeks, so that all is ready for the day His Holiness arrives to bless the wheel and the garden.
