405,000 new vans hit US roads every year. Sprinter vans, Ford Transit vans, and Dodge Promasters are everywhere with some media outlets speculating that van life is the new American Dream.Is van life really the next American dream? If so, why? Are people moving into vans because they can no longer afford to live in houses? Or perhaps folks are abandoning traditional lifestyles for something alternative that’s more fulfilling? If this is the case, does van living actually make people happy and fulfilled? Sergei Boutenko was curious about the growing van trend and decided to do some investigative journalism. In the summer of 2018, Boutenko covered 18,000 miles of the United States and interviewed 80+ people about vans in order to get to the bottom of what’s going on.
