This vinyasa practice with Kate Potter is designed specifically to compliment the Autumnal Equinox. Not until the spine is truly aligned, and the back, shoulders and neck muscles are strong enough to allow for release, will you truly understand how to yield with strength. Kate guides you to release through breath and find strength in letting go. That is what your body needs in Autumn. Leave this practice feeling balanced and ready to breathe in the beautiful air of Autumn.

It is truly refreshing to finally find a vinyasa flow on this website that doesn't harp on doing chaturanga in every vinyasa flow. As someone who is trying to get over a rotator cuff injury it is hard for me to find practices that take it easy on that part of my body. I especially liked the resting breaths, it reminded me of Tai chi and always helps me get back to the breath and reground myself. The one issue I had was the beginning because I am not familiar with Cat 1, Cat 2, and Cat 3 flows. If you are not either I would recommend watching the first portion of the video before trying it because I am so used to cat/cow.

Dear Injured,

Thank you so much for posting this. As long as I have ever taught yoga ( 30+ years) I have never been fond of teaching the Sun Salutation. It is not just the chaturanga part of it that is a difficult transition, {although If people have difficult shoulders then there is peril moving from" chaturanga" to "up dog" }, but if your low back is iffy then the endless forward folding is totally nuts. One has to be so engaged in the core to sky dive out like that. I love the forward fold with the feet wide apart and the toes turned slightly in....much lower centre of gravity and not so much canta-leverage. The Cat series are excellent way build strength in your shoulder but here you must be careful too.....don't go very far on the dip ( the cat bow ) and get used to using your core like crazy. Try to strengthen the muscles between the shoulder blades by pulling together there when you go into 'cat bow' and yes always watch first to get the idea.

Best luck in your recovery, and do come to a workshop if you can. I always teach Cat Series. I have 10 of them. I will be in NY next fall and also Ottawa. I am in TX in March, Fl and WI in April. Check my site katepotteryoga.ca, and let me know if you have more questions.

I love this series! Especially in the morning. One question though..This series cramps my arches by 20-25 minutes in and have to pause... hmmmm ....Perhaps drawing up the kneecaps might help?

Please Please Please more Kate Potter~!

katepotter, posted on November 18, 2015

Thanks so much for posting, and I wish you success is your foot cramping difficulty. I would say, if you lift the knee caps up, it might actually make more cramping happen, even though that is a normal cue in using the legs. Perhaps you could try imagining the feet are wider, like you are standing in mud? Perhaps you need more magnesium in your diet? Perhaps there is too much weight in the toes and not dropping into the heels enough? If you ever come to Vancouver, do come and see me privately, and we can take a look.

Best,

Kate

Kerry6, posted on November 22, 2015

Imagining my feet in mud is precisely what I need. Grounding in the past has been an insistent focus and my challenge. I find myself allowing energy to flow only down until the ankles. I think I was seven until I stopped walking on my tiptoes and allow my heels to drop. Such sensitive feet .......... so much sensation it overwhelmed me as a child. Walking barefoot outside is a very deep meditation practice..... Thanks for the reminder...Laughing at myself I did not connect this! Thank you!

katepotter, posted on September 5, 2016

Dear Kerry,

I just found this note again now and It seems I did not respond the first time? I am so glad you have the sensitive feet. What a boon. Only trouble is if you don't get them down and under you the whole spine has not a chance to also ground. I love Yoga so much and have realized so much comes from the spine but not without feet. Dance down. Down beat. Down and in.

Best, Kate

Please be more aware of the need for audio cues throughout the new sequences. There was no audio guidance for long stretches during some unusual standing poses/sequences, which took me out of the practice and my breath because I had to turn to look at what you're doing. Oddly, there was an almost annoying amount of audio guidance during shavasana, which was really unnecessary, unlike in the flowing poses. Want to love this, but it's frustrating to do the first couple times due to lack of guidance.

katepotter, posted on November 18, 2015

Thanks very much for your post on cues and letting me know your difficulty in following the sequence. I will sure take it to heart if I ever have the chance to film with Gaiam again. I would also very much like to mirror the student as I do in class, so we all turn in the same direction.....and this at least means you don't have to look over your shoulder. I guess, if it is worth it to you, you will learn it by watching first, but for savasana....there is nothing worse than too many words.

I can only say sorry and better next time.

aromarose, posted on November 21, 2015

I love the guided savasana as I know so many people do (from my own teachings), thank you Kate this was a beautiful class.

Thank you for this gorgeous practice!! I love your style Kate and will definitely be back for more. Your yoga is like a sacred dance! It was perfect for this mild and windy fall day - I had the windows open and it was as if I was flowing with the falling leaves :)

katepotter, posted on November 7, 2015

This is a splendid note...means I have some true affiliations out there! Well wait until you get the spring practice.

I hope Winter will be posted soon.... keep asking for it because it is filmed and they have it ready, and you are going to love the depth and simplicity both.

Much love to you, Kate

katepotter, posted on October 24, 2015

Thank you so much for this post Nan. indeed there is a flow for every season to be released! Not that I am rushing winter or anything. My favourite flow is spring and that is a long time to wait. I hope you will join me on one of my retreats and learn them. Perhaps FL in April 2016? www.katepotteryoga.ca

Thanks to you,

Just stunning. I took an unplanned break from yoga for almost a month, and returned to the mat because of tension that built up because of the absence of yoga. This was a beautiful way to gently ease my body and soul back into awareness of my self. My lower back tension has been opened up and released, and I am feeling much more at peace with life in general again. Thank you. Namaste.

katepotter, posted on October 3, 2015

Awesome. Great to hear from you and so pleased to be of service.

Just returning to my mat as an instructor after a 6 month break that involved healing from knee surgery, a move to a new city and a search for a new opportunity to teach. I was looking for a practice on My Yoga that would inspire me and found myself drawn to your Autumn flow. It was absolutely lovely and perfect! I will incorporate so much of this beautiful flow into my first class. Thank you!

katepotter, posted on October 2, 2015

.....Ah such a thing all that change for you. Thank you for choosing this practice and being inspired to teach more and more. All the best of luck in your knee healing up well. I salute you from here in Vancouver where Autumn is in full tilt wonder.

Was like a welcome home to do this.! I had my fountain running and my aroma therapy while doing this. I love you Kate.. You have been a definite fixture in my yoga as I have been practicing with your DVDs and with Gaiam. You and your practices have been such a big part of my yoga practices for around 10 years! Can't wait for more from you. You are awesome and such an inspiration! Thank you!

This is beautiful, refreshing, real and absolutely healing. Her queques are smart, sequences fresh and new. This is a dance as much as it is yoga.
A relief to find an asana that was not just brute strength, pushing thru chadaranga after chadaranga. More of Kate please!! Not just for the 4 seasons but for every month
Peace.

Kate is such an incredible teacher. I love the breath body link and slow progressive sequences that she builds, training the brain and body into those positions. She is able to guide me to a kind of relaxation that is rare. I would love to experience an extended meditation with her.

Your cat series (for me, always with a bow;) have always been great warm ups, Kate. Even when my back is a little sore....something about it releases any soreness so I'm able to continue with my muscles feeling strained or tired. This was another great practice for me.....very soothing and something that warms up the body just the right way. And your descriptions also have helped me envision where my breathing or stretch needs to be. Many thanks! I'm going to test the download to the purple app..............so you'll be coming with me on my trip to Berlin next week ;) Can't wait for the next practice.....
[edit] I only realized at the end who your partners were!!!!!! HOW AWESOME!!!!!! I hope you filmed more with the three of you!!!

Love the way my back feels with that curve when you pull the floor of pelvis up. umm.
