Winter - A Posture Flow Opening to the Round

Available worldwide

This vinyasa practice with Kate Potter is a year round practice to remind us of cycles and circles in ourselves, and in our cosmological home. The teaching or rounding spine is useful for rolling on the back to jump through into chaturanga. With the constant referencing of Earth poses and Apana, this sequence is very calming. Not static in its nature, this sequence moves with attention and is yielding.

Now that is a flow. Kate, I love how you make every flow a dance (I know I've mentioned this before). After having a migraine yesterday and experiencing what many call a migraine hangover today, I was reluctant to practice as some movements (hard to predict what) can bring a full-fledged headache back. This was exactly what I needed. I could close my eyes and internalize through each of the movements and breathe deeply, yet I knew exactly when to open them to pick up the newest asana. And everything just felt great. Thank you!

Kate, throughout your teachings, throughout the years of your practice, I cannot begin to know how many people's lives you have changed, like so many other wonderful teachers...and I wanted to share with you something I hope becomes a part of you as much as you have become a part of me. Years ago I lived in a rural Tennessee town, far from yoga teachings, when my beautiful grandson was diagnosed with a terminal illness, he was the first born of my young son and his wife. I had to find strength in hopes it would flow onto them, even with my marriage that was already on the last chapter, I had to find peace to share peace. Each time I would come home from one of the many hospital visits, where we had nearly lost him, I thought I would simply evaporate in sadness. I had only internet for television and one day, I, too, came across your videos on Namaste TV. I began my first experience with yoga and never stopped, thanks to you. In a few short months after beginning practicing with "you," I lost my grandson. I nearly lost my son, who was beyond destroyed losing his firstborn. My husband left one day while I was at work. I lost my home without his income to help. My entire department was laid off at my job. But...I would do yoga 3 times a day, at least. I took it hiking with me, I took it with me in my mind, body and spirit, and I truly believe, had I not been introduced to this lifestyle (which, btw, my church at the time basically excommunicated me for practicing), I do not think I would be here today, for certainly, I would have kept all that anxiety inside of me, as I was used to doing, and disease would have found me (I already had thyroid cancer at 29), or I simply would have stopped breathing with the weight I carried both inside and out. I believe we should always thank those who come into our lives, and through them, we find change in ourselves. I am glad to have found you here on Gaia, to know you continue to offer your teachings to others, and where I can once again, enjoy your practices that brought me so much peace. Indeed, Namaste!

Kate - I have been not so good with keeping up my practices - partly because i hurt my wrist. But today i had to start the new year right....and this was perfect for a cold Southern California morning. You three were the ones who i followed at Namaste TV a few years back [on dvd]..............and it seems right that you bring me back in the new Year!!! Many thanks. Cannot wait to see what you will bring us in the Spring!! Wishing you the best and much love in 2016!

Brilliant! Wonderful. Thank you for letting me know. Yes you will love all the seasons if you like the "add on" style of the original Namaste series. Fun to be with the original cast too. Love those girls. Good luck with your wrist.

Best, Kate

I really loved this vinyasa. It was beautiful and very well explained. My only complain is you seemed to rush through the last 2 asanas (you didn't do the two sides as before). I will definitely have to practice this a few days on my own. Thanks! Blessings for the new year.

Thanks so much for your comment. I am going to get on there and see if was an error of filming or an error of the computer. So sorry regardless and I am happy you are practising with us.

This class was perfect for me today, as my lower back has been feeling a bit sore. I really liked the unique flow, linked poses to breath, and how after finishing a sequence we went back to the beginning to then add on. Nice shavasana at the end. Thank you Kate for a nice class and Happy Winter Solstice !

And have a beautiful Christmas and New Years. Don't let the holidays get in the way of your practice. I never do. Avec Love,

Kate does it again. I view other teachers and enjoy them, but no one is Kate. Her flows are so original and they do precisely that: they flow! The breathe-body links are creative and accomplish exactly what they should: the dance between the breathe and the body. Not only are Kate's classes edifying for the body and mind, but they are works of art. Thank you, Kate, for your dedication to your practice and for sharing it with us. Your guidance is perfect.

What a sweet, gentle practice to pacify Vata on this first day of Winter! I also enjoyed the heart openers.
